A quote from an Apple dealer who supports some Windows box's. I know I
am tired of the 200-300 MS.exe I get everyday, There needs to be
accountability for MS. On the other hand, Linux users could help out
also.

"Times are changing on the desktop, however. I put in an order for 151
PowerBooks for our local college. They've had a huge problem with
viruses with students returning to fall classes and plugging infected
PC laptops into the school networks. The email traffic killed their
network and took them offline for two days. The IT support department,
which is woefully understaffed in the first place, has gone to fining
students $50 and disabling their mac address if found with an infected
computer on a campus network, along with an additional mandatory $100
charge to "certify" the student's laptop and patch it before it will be
allowed to network again. The new policy had the effect of quite a few
migrations to the PowerBooks, but I'm sure some of the more savvy ones
will install linux on their wintel laptops as well.

The "certification" of the laptop involves making sure it's clean, and
has Norton AntiVirus on it with daily updates. Windows is getting too
high maintenence."
