hi guys, ive been having fun :D just fer giggles and
grins (that and the fact i cant afford the $80 this
month and needed it now instead of next month) i spent
a couple of weeks downloading all i could off a mirror
of the suse 8.2 site. i then set up an ftp server at
the shop and proceeded to install suse 8.2 from it over
the network. anybody who hasnt should, its a blast when
ya get it to work.

however, not being the linix masters you guys are, i do
have a couple of questions. they do thing a little
differently this release. it seems its not using the
inetd to start lots of things. i wanted to set up an
ftp server and use it in shop. (which means security
isnt as big a concern) i need one i can configure to
use a different home than the default (i have a second
drive installed for storing drivers etc) and i could
not figure out how to move the home directory from the
default on any of the 3 ftp servers i was given a
choice to install on. i could only get one of them to
start automaticaly anyways lol. i did do some reading
including web sites. the one i had most success with
was pure ftp. but nothing i could find on it even said
how to move the default home. anybody got any
sugestions? i had to use a windoz box as the ftp server
to load the suse box because i couldnt use a production
box. i would like to be able to set up a newer linux
box to do ftp in house.

second question is this; im sure linux can be used as a
certificate authority in house much like you can set up
windoz 2000 to do. i dont even know where to begin on
this one, i dont even know what software would do it or
where to find it. can anybody point me at the right
spot where i can find info? any sugestions as to what
software i need? im not looking for a ca online just
yet, im looking at ways to secure a network in house.
im just playing at this point. im sheduled to take the
security+ test next month and as i was doing some
reseach i had a wild idea that maybe i could use linux
to be an in house ca used to secure in house
comunications. and you know what happens when one of us
gets curious. any help/direction to look in this now
obsesion would also be greatly appreciated. ;)

thanks in advance guys.
