Anchorage Electronics Recycling Update:

We are making big strides now on the Electronics Reuse and Recycling
project. Here are a few highlights. Please help spread the word.

Electronics Exchange:
The Electronics Exchange site was just launched for trading electronic
equipment: http://www.greenstarinc.org. Get on and post your reusable
electronic gear. It's simple and listings are free.

Electronics Recycling Days:
For businesses: Friday, May 9, 10 am to 4 pm at the old Carrs Dimond =
store
(Old Seward/Dimond)
For households: Saturday, May 10, 10 am to 4 pm, same location

Thank you Carrs-Safeway for providing the location!

Recycler:
We have chosen Philip Service Corporation as the recycler of the
electronics. They provide the most environmentally friendly recycling
option and highest end use of the equipment. They also ensure that =
none of
the equipment will be shipped overseas, where they cause human and
environmental harm. Ninety-nine percent of the material will be =
recycled or
reused!

Cost:
We are narrowing down the actual costs to recycle electronics through =
the
program. Fees will be set very soon and will be well below any other
environmentally-responsible program available to Anchorage residents =
and
businesses today, thanks to Anchorage Solid Waste Services, BP and our =
many
in-kind donors!

What will be accepted for recycling?
Monitors, TVs, computers, computer peripherals, fax machines, printers,
copiers, telephones, cell phones, video cameras, VCRs, DVDs, audio
recorders, stereos, electronic toys, media (floppy disks, CDs, DVDs, =
tapes),
and most other circuit board-containing device.

Not accepted: Batteries, smoke detectors and non circuit board bearing
electric devices.

Business Information Session:
Any business wishing to recycle many electronics should consider =
attending a
training which will cover regulations regarding disposal of =
electronics,
logistics of recycling large quantities through the May event, costs,
liabilities, information destruction, etc. March 19, 11:45 am to 1:00 =
pm,
BP Energy Center. RSVP to sean@greenstarinc.org.

Detailed information about this project can be found at
http://www.greenstarinc.org/electronicsinfo.htm. In case you missed =
it, the
Anchorage Daily News wrote a nice feature article about the event
http://www.adn.com/business/story/2655109p-2697430c.html.

ACTION ITEMS

Volunteers
Green Star is seeking volunteers to help for approximately 4-hour =
shifts on
the recycling days. Many different duties are available. Reply to
jeanne@greenstarinc.org.

Promotions:
If you have ideas about how to promote the program on a dime, please =
contact
me. We are seeking email lists, mailing lists, places to distribute =
flyers,
newsletter articles, etc. Many things are in the works, but the more
promotion, the better.

In-kind sponsors
We are seeking several types of sponsors to provide in-kind or reduced =
rate
services in exchange for sponsor credits. These include a print shop, =
a
banner maker, and a graphic designer. =20

Thank you for your assistance and interest in this project!
