Another year has come and gone and since we aren't having a regular meeting
tonight, I wanted to say a few things before the end of the year regarding
the AKLUG group.

First, I wanted to thank everyone who had an opportunity to help out at the
IT Expo this year. I think it was one of our best efforts yet and I'm
pretty sure if we are able to have a booth next year we will be one of the
most popular there.

We have gained many new members because of our efforts at the IT Expo as
well as being well represented in the community.

Secondly, I wanted to address what the AKLUG organization has accomplished
and should accomplish in the coming year. Some of the things that I believe
we have accomplished are:

- More awareness of Linux in Alaska
- Consistent Friday night installfest - This is a favorite among our users
- Consistent Monthly meetings (OK...so we missed one or two)
- Larger core group of members
- Provided professional venue for solving problems

Here are some of things I believe we need to accomplish in the coming year:

- More structured training for new Linux enthusiasts
- More training opportunities for current members
- Provide a mechanism for more members to contribute to the content of the
web site
- Update the hardware for the AKLUG server
- Provide opportunities for members to apply their knowledge
- Continue providing a professional venue for getting problems solved

As always I would like to solicit advice and feedback on how we can make
AKLUG a better organization. Please keep your criticism constructive and
provide possible solutions if you see something that needs addressing.

I have enjoyed running the organization and I hope everyone gets something
from our exchanges on this maillist. Thanks for letting me continue in this
capacity and I look forward to serving the group better as we move forward
into 2003.
