Hello Folks........
Got a lengthy email for the .deb crowd today........
I would like to learn Deb pkging system from the standpoint of
building pkgs from source so I can tweak some of the binaries in my
favor........"YES I HAVE BEEN READING THE MANUALS".......
But this is where I am at, the sources on Deb can be compiled and installed
using iether apt/dpkg.........now this for instance
On RedHat I can install a source.rpm into /usr/src/redhat/SPECS.....where I
can proceed to tewak my spec file/files and change a great number of things
for the rpm/rpms......at the end I type an rpm command and there is a *.src.rpm in
../SRPMS to be built into binaries with --rebuild........then in ../RPMS/i686 etc etc etc......
On Slackware I can make a package by way of unpacking a tgz/tar.gz source and making a build/install
contained in a filesystem structure then issue a command for making the package........
i end up with a slackpkg.tgz which can be installed from / or from pkgtools..........
So I am reading guys, just finding debs way of this stuff a bit strange.......not bad
just a bit different than other distros..............
Please someone point me.....or tell me how to unload a deb source and tweak it make some alterations
build it and install it..........
An example package I did for RedHat/Slackware was to compile/recompile mozilla-0.9.8 with antialias font
support in it so I could render them in the browser after I downloaded them from MS..........
"ANY POINTERS/READS WOULD BE ACCEPTED BY ME FREE OF CHARGE OF COURSE....... ;) "
Thanks in advance.............
