if the newer red hat distros are the same as the older
ones, you can sit at the console and boot up in single
user mode and red hat assumes you are root, not asking
for your password. when it boots up to lilo, hit tab
for a menu of choices. assuming the main linux boot is
labeled "linux" just type "linux single" and it takes
you into single user mode. then just type passwd to
change your password, and reboot. red hat used to do
this but may not still. suse didnt, not sure of debian
or the rest. i have done this in the past so i know it
does/did work. you might have to corect for spelling
lol. hope this helps
