Folks,
We are looking for a content filtering package to run under Linux on our
Cobalt Qube3 Internet Appliance. The Qube3 runs Cobalt Linux release 6.0
(Carmel)
Kernel 2.2.16C32_III on an i586
I have found a content filtering package called DansGuardian at

The Qube3 itself has a web manager which most newbies like me use. My
knowledge of Linux is very limited.
Dansguardian requires web caching(squid) to operate. The Qube3 can enable
web caching via the web browser. I notice a squid2 directory on the Qube3.
1. Is squid2 most likely the web caching software the Qube3 uses for
web caching?
2. Do you have any knowledge of Dansguardian?
I also apparently will need squidquard from www.squidguard.org
<http://www.squidguard.org> . Supposedly Dansguardian works with squid
and squidguard to form a respectable filtering system.
We realize that there is no perfect content filter and that a determined
user can find porno and other sites even with content filtering enabled.
However, the environment here is such that removing some of the temptation
is appreciated by the students. The actual decision to provide filtering
was made at the request of students a few years ago. We currently receive
content filtering through our ISP, ACS Internet (Internet Alaska). However,
our other local provider, Copper Valley Internet, is establishing DSL in
Glennallen but does not offer content filtering. Our current network
Internet connection is a single shared dialup line with a static IP address.
DSL will offer us significant Internet access and the Qube is designed to
operate effectively with that service. Therefore our hope is to move to
CVInternet via DSL and do our own content filtering.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
