somebody asked about the installation... so here goes-
System:
P3-600 (133Mhz Bus) 384mb 15GB-7200RPM HD.. etc..

Going from Windows 98-SE to Windows XP Home Edition

Total Time: 74 mins.

Windows XP claimed to keep all of my original settings, however about 2/3 of
the way through the installation, i got an error message telling me it cant
keep them.. haha.
the installation is rather normal.. first it checks to make sure everything
is working normally and it scans your whole system inside and out, probably
creating a profile of your systems components, next, it Defrags. Finally,
after rebooting a few times, it starts installing, it restarts again, and
goes into windows. It now asks you to "activate" if you dont activate,
you only get 30 days before windows supposedly "wont work" (i activated
it) it asked a few simple questions- how many users, name, things like
that, and then sent it via the net.

Next you register it (i chose Not to do the online registration) with Home
Edition you have to create user profiles, which then keeps all your email
addresses, your messenger contacts, etc etc. Now instead of MSN messenger,
it comes with "Windows Messenger" basically the same thing, with more
featers, and cool looking graphics.

by Default the look of windows is different, however i found that it's
nothing more than a "skin" for windows, which can be changed, and even
turned off, leaving it looking like regular old Windows 98.

OH.. did i mention at the begining it gives you a list of programs, and any
hardware that it cannot use, as well as suggestions on what to do about it..
most of which are simply wait until the updates come out from the
manufacturers.

Finally, in 2 days now, it has not stalled once, has not given any blue
screens, and has not randomly quit any programs (it's very nice!) it's
actually running FASTER than 98 did, even with all the new graphics, and the
Fade-menu effect, which first popped up with Windows 2000.

Microsoft = Monopoly
but.. so far I am impressed.

Chase
